The Queen does not ‘rule’ the country, but fulfils important ceremonial and formal roles with respect to Government. She is Head of State of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms.

On the 6 February 1952, Princess Elizabeth while staying in a remote part of Kenya received the news of her father’s death and that she had become Queen of England.

Her Majesty is well known for drinking tea and eating cucumber sandwiches. She like all female English monarchs has reigned for a very long time and looks to be around for quite a while longer. Though she does not have the power given to Victoria and Elizabeth her predecessors she will always be remembered for regal presence and support during world war 2.


Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born in London at on April 21, 1926 and crowned on June 2, 1953.

Elizabeth II (the first being a very well known monarchy who ruled over  almost a third of the world) was just 25 years old when she ascended to the British throne on the death of her father, George IV, in 1952.

She is married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh who’s mask can be seen below

According Forbes magazine, the Queen’s is worth was estimated at US$450 million .Prince Charles is Heir to her Throne followed by William. She has tried to make the British monarchy more modern and sensitive to the public.


Did you know that the Windsor Castle is the oldest royal residence in the world that is still being used by the royal family and that the Buckingham Palace was built in 1702 on the site of an infamous brothel!

Her Residence is believed to be haunted by many ghosts including those of Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, King George, and Charles I. So be wary when visiting.
